HICKORY, NC (WBTV) -

Hodgins the dog came to the Humane Society of Catawba County as a 10-week-old puppy that someone found on the side of the road.

On Tuesday he celebrated his 3rd birthday still without a forever home.

"Over a period of time all the other animals got adopted, Hodgins didn't," said Humane Society Director Jane Bowers.

No one can quite put a finger on exactly why Hodgins hasn't been adopted.

He doesn't show well which means, when potential parents come by to pick out a pup, Hodgins might act a little too excited.

Cassandra Haecherl has been fostering the boxer mix since August and said he's an absolute angel with a little extra energy.

Haecherl says he even gets along with her other dogs and cats, and is house-trained.

Hodgins has been at the shelter for so long, the folks there are throwing him a birthday party this weekend, in the hopes a forever family may attend and decide to take Hodgins home.

There will also be other adoptable animals at the party.

The following is from the HSCC's Facebook page: Hodgins will be having a birthday party with his friends at Glen Hilton Park in Hickory on Saturday from noon to 2pm. The community is invited to come meet Hodgins and some of the other dogs waiting for their forever homes.
