LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) – They say no good deed goes unpunished. The man who dodged a bullet after walking a woman to her car in Little River over the weekend may agree with that statement,

The 30-year-old man, and resident in the home in Little River where the incident occurred, told police that he and another friend were walking a female to her vehicle after a party on Saturday, Nov. 10 when they were approached by another man.

The suspect began arguing with the female, which the police report states is the suspect's wife.

In an attempt to break up the altercation, the resident of the home asked the suspect to leave, even walking him to the edge of the road and insisting he take off.

The report states the suspect, 46-year-old Darrell Bellamy, got in his truck and began to drive away, but stopped in the street.

"I have something for you," Bellamy stated as he approached the man with a handgun and fired a shot in his direction.

Every witness on scene said they ran away from him in fear for their lives.

No one was injured, but police who responded to the scene say they never found a shell casing.

After trying to make contact with Bellamy, police sought an arrest warrant and he was taken into custody on Monday for attempted murder.

He was released from custody exactly seven hours after he was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center with a $5,000 bond.
