CONWAY - After an 18-2-2 season, the Coastal Carolina men's soccer team found out Monday it was heading back to the NCAA Tournament this fall to try and make a run at winning the national championship. The Chants will host the Elon Phoenix for the second straight year in the postseason. The match is scheduled for Thursday, November 15th, at 7:00 p.m. at Coastal Carolina University.
Last year, the Chants advanced in the postseason by beating Elon 4-3. The two also met in the regular season, with Coastal winning that match as well by a 2-1 final. The winner this week will go on to play Sunday, November 18th at Wake Forest, the 15 overall seed in the country.
The Chanticleers, who had 18 wins this season, earned a berth to the 2012 NCAA Tournament by winning its 11th Big South regular season title since 1986. This will make Coastal's 10th NCAA berth and the eighth under head coach Shaun Docking. The 18 wins are the most by any team in the nation, and the Chants have also scored more goals than any other Division One school this year.
