7th annual Coats For Kids Campaign

Posted: Updated:

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF)- For the seventh year Coast RTA is asking the community to help keep families warm this winter by supporting their Coats for Kids Campaign.

"It's just a matter of being able to help those people that need a little assistance," said Yvette Jefferson, Marketing and Community Relations Director for Coast RTA.

The Coast RTA has donation boxes placed in locations throughout the county. All you need to do is drop new or gently used items into the box.

Boxes can be found at Myrtle Beach City Hall, Myrtle Beach City Services Building, Chapin Memorial Library, the Ted C. Collins Law Enforcement Center, the Law Enforcement Annex or their newest locations at the Horry County Memorial Library and the Carolina Forest Recreation Center. The boxes will remain at these locations until December 8.

"Anything from little jackets to the big jackets, blankets, sweaters, hats, gloves, anything someone feels someone else could need or use we greatly appreciate being donated," Jefferson said.

On December 15, the Coast RTA will distribute the donations at the National Guard Armory in Conway.

"People interested in attending distribution, but don't have a way to get there can call Coast RTA and they will connect you with a bus route to help you get there," Jefferson said.

In the past Coats for Kids has served about 200 families per year with about 1,000 pieces being donated, according to Jefferson. In 2012, the Coast RTA hopes to exceed donations from past years with a goal of about 1,200 articles.

If you would like a Coats for Kids donation box at your establishment contact the Coast RTA and they will bring one to you.

"It's a great opportunity to give, to invite the community to support our local families and just a win, win situation all around," Jefferson said.
