Aviation giants to survey ITAP

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Members with the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation (MBREDC) discussed the very latest on the International Technology and Aerospace Park (I-TAP) project with a group of Horry County and Myrtle Beach leaders at the Horry County Legislative Delegation on Monday Morning.

MBREDC is the group leading the I-TAP marketing efforts. Brad Lofton, MBREDC President and CEO, says right now the focus is bringing in aviation giants to survey the site. I-TAP  is made up of 450 acres of land right next to Myrtle Beach International Airport.  According to Lofton, Construction for the infrastructure on the land wrapped up about seven months ago, and the MBREDC  has been targeting prospective companies ever since . Lofton says activity has really picked up over the last few months but points out there's a lot for potential companies to consider when looking for a new site.

"[They look at] evaluating the site, demographics, labor, and amenities of the park, to make a decision. But we feel like we've done everything we need to do and we're in a position to bring in aviation jobs," said Lofton at the Horry County Legislative Delegation meeting.

When it comes to potential jobs to the Grand Strand, Lofton says it could still be another six months before any official announcements are made about a new company setting up shop at I-TAP.
