Unloaded gun ends armed robbery attempt

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Police are looking for the man they say tried to rob two sisters in a park, two women who weren't willing to give up their belongings so easily.

Just after 7 p.m. Sunday night, two sisters sitting in Anderson Park met the business end of a firearm when a man walked up and demanded their purses.

One of the sisters recalled that the man pulled back the slide on his gun, and there was not a round in the chamber. Assuming the gun was not loaded, she stood up and started yelling for someone to come and help them.

According to the report, the suspect then took off running without the purses he demanded from the victims.

The sisters went to the closest hotel with occupants in the lobby and called police to report the crime. They described the man as a skinny black male in his late twenties to early thirties, wearing a grey hoodie and black shorts.

The report states the gun he was carrying was possibly a 9 mm with a black handgrip. The suspect was noted to have some facial hair and a short haircut.

Any information about this incident should be reported to police as soon as possible.
