Hartsville urges residents to report problems with smart phone app

Posted: Updated:

HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - The City of Hartsville is promoting a smart phone app that allows residents to report problems directly to the city.

The app is called SeeClickFix. It's already used in other cities like Raleigh, North Carolina; Richmond, Virginia; and San Francisco, California.

Mayor Mel Pennington says they've been testing it out for several weeks and now he wants the people of Hartsville to start using it.

"I thinks it's awesome. Smart phones are the new way of the world. Technology is getting better with smart phones. And I think around here it would help a lot," said Noah Duckett of Hartsville.

The way the app work is if you see a problem, like trash in your yard or a burned-out street light, you use the app to take a photo of the problem, describe the details of the issue, and then submit it.

The app uses the smart phone's mapping software to pin point where you are and the city logs the information.

"It lets you know how many people support fixing the issue. And it never goes away," said Mayor Pennington.

"So some of these issue that people have been complaining about for years, well now they are going to get fixed because they are never going away until they are resolved."
