Ten lives lost in deadly weekend on SC roads

SOUTH CAROLINA (WMBF) - Ten people were killed on South Carolina roads over the weekend, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

SCDPS says a preliminary report shows ten people were killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. until Sunday, Nov. 4, at midnight.

As of Monday, 682 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 719 highway deaths in this same time period in 2011.

Of the 449 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2012, 261 were not wearing seat belts.

Through midnight Nov. 4, 82 pedestrians, 95 motorcyclists and 12 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways.

Fatalities reported in the Grand Strand and Pee Dee are detailed below:

Darlington County – 13

Dillon County – 10

Florence County – 27

Georgetown County – 12

Horry County – 36

Marion County – 7

Marlboro County – 2

These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight November 4.
