6 hour drug operation headed by Conway Police

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - A six hour drug sting operation by numerous law enforcement agencies in Horry County kicked off the month of November.

Conway Police Department Public Information Officer Catina Hipp says beginning Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. officers from the Horry County Sheriff's Office, Horry County Police Department, South Carolina Highway Patrol and the 15th Judicial Circuit Solicitor's Office Drug Enforcement Unit joined Conway Police Department officers in conducting a joint drug interdiction operation within the city.

Hipp explains that the officers focused their efforts and attention in and around the Huckabee Heights, Darden Terrace and 9th Avenue areas. She adds police also spent time at the corridors that connected the targeted areas.

Theresa Mishoe works at the Moses Mini Mart just down the road from where the operation took place. She said, she doesn't see much crime in the area.

"We don't really have any crime in this area right here. We've been here about three years and we haven't really had no problems. Everything's been fine. I'm here everyday from nine till seven and we don't have any problem," Mishoe said.

The operation lasted until shortly after midnight Friday morning and netted 68 enforcement contacts, including six for drug violations, the seizure of $900, and the service of one outstanding warrant.

Hipp did not specify what led officers to the targeted areas or if the operation was a part of a larger project.

Mike Roberts said he has lived in Conway for 60 years, and commended the Conway Police Department's work with the drug operation.

"I think it's pretty safe, but I think anything they do makes it better. I mean, I think we got a good police department that's working on making it more safer all the time," Roberts said.
