Police investigate Florence murder suicide

Posted: Updated:

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A Timmonsville man beat his girlfriend with his gun, before shooting her and then killing himself, according to police.

Around 11:30 Friday night, Florence Police and the Florence Sheriff's Department responded to a call on East Sam Harrell Rd.

Stephen Ramon Davis, 41, of Timmonsville, was at his sister's house in Florence with several other people, including friends and family.

Later in the evening, Davis' girlfriend Shannon Hall Gomez, 32, of Leesville, came to the house.

Witnesses told police the two started to argue, and it quickly escalated. Davis pulled out a gun and began hitting Gomez with it. He then shot her twice in the head, according to police records.

The other people in the house were trying to leave when Davis walked into the back room and shot himself.

Florence Police Chief Anson Shells says based on witnesses and evidence at the scene, they can draw the conclusion that this is a murder-suicide case. However, they will continue to investigate in order to make sure nothing is overlooked.

They will conduct interviews, bring in a forensics team, and collect evidence as if it was an unsolved case to be 100 percent sure. Police want to have everything documented in case there is any need to amend the case in the future, or if anyone else needs to be charged in the investigation.
