GEORGETOWN , SC (WMBF) - Authorities are working to notify the family of a Georgetown County inmate found unresponsive in his cell.
The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office says the male inmate was found unresponsive in his cell in the Georgetown County Detention Center on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
The man was transported to Georgetown Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead from what Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson determined was emphysema and cardiovascular disease.
Until the family can be notified, the name of inmate is not being released. Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson says the 58-year-old white male had been in the detention center since the middle of July.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was notified and responded to the Georgetown County Detention Center to investigate the incident.
