FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal head-on crash in the Pee Dee.

According to the Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 9:19 a.m. on Old River Road, four miles north of Highway 378 in Florence County.

SCHP spokesman Sonny Collins says a Dodge pickup traveling north on Old River Road crossed the center line when rounding a curve and struck a Penske box truck head-on.

The driver of pickup truck, identified as 59-year-old Charles Casselman of Andrews, was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Penske box truck was transported to a local hospital for examination. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Sky Alston lives on Old River Road and says accident happen often.

"I've lived here since 2005 and I'd say there's probably been about 15 accidents on this road and even one in front of my house," Alston said. "Just a couple of months ago there was an accident farther up this way heading towards Florence where two 18-wheelers almost collided but one went into the field."
