Head-on collision kills one in Dillon County

DILLON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - One person is dead after a head-on collision on a Dillon County highway Wednesday morning.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred on SC 917 just six miles north of Latta around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim was driving a 1990 Chevy S10 pickup truck south along SC 917 when it crossed the center line and struck a 2011 Toyota Rav4 head-on.

The victim, identified as 59-year-old Floyd Martin "Buddy" Altman of Latta, was wearing a seatbelt at the time the crash occurred.

The two occupants of the other vehicle were also wearing their seatbelts, and were transferred to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, and officials say no charges are expected to be filed.

Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley report an autopsy will be performed Wednesday to determine Altman's cause of death.
