RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

An incident report says a Richland County school bus driver charged with driving under the influence blew over double the legal limit for alcohol.

Troopers from the South Carolina Highway Patrol say 61-year-old Margaret Means tested a .17 BAC during a breath test after losing control of the 1990 International school bus she was driving.

The legal limit to drive in the state of South Carolina is .08.

A spokesperson with Richland School District One says Means had completed a portion of her route, dropping 151 students off at an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school, just before the crash happened. There were no students on the bus at the time of the accident.

The incident happened Friday around 9:10 a.m. on Clarkson Road near Hopkins Middle School.

According to the incident report, Means told troopers she had a liter of wine the night before, but had not consumed any alcohol that morning. The trooper noted in the report that Means smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, and appeared to be unsteady on her feet.

Means, who was not injured, was arrested at the scene and transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

In addition to DUI, she was charged with child endangerment.

The district has not commented on Means' employment status, but said she won't be driving a bus for Richland One again. She's been with the district for over 12 years.
