MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A Myrtle Beach man spent the night behind bars after TSA officials found a loaded gun in his carry on luggage.

It was a duress alarm that brought an officer with Horry County Police to the TSA checkpoint in Myrtle Beach International Tuesday afternoon.

That officer found a carry-on bag containing a loaded handgun with five live rounds in the magazine and six additional bullets in the bag.

That bag belonged to 54-year-old Gary Lynn Hadwin, who was placed under arrest and charged with carrying or displaying firearms in public buildings or adjacent areas.

According to the report from Horry County Police, Hadwin admits he was in a rush to get on the plane and forgot the gun was in his bag. Hadwin does possess a South Carolina Concealed Weapons Permit, but as a permit holder, he is still prohibited from carrying a firearm into an airport.

Booking records show Hadwin was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at just after 7 p.m. Tuesday night and released Wednesday morning on $2,000 bond.
