RICHMOND, VA (CNN) - A high school in Virginia celebrated the opening of an on-campus daycare with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday.

Plans for the daycare at Armstrong High School were originally announced in February.

Richmond city leaders hope it will help keep teen parents in school.

The Armstrong Child Development Center isn't the only attempt at reducing the student drop-out rate.

Other plans include converting another high school into a charter school and expanding a "violence-free zone" program.
