Man dies in Longs house fire

LONGS, SC (WMBF)- HCFR responded to a house fire in Longs around 9 p.m. Saturday night and one person has died as a result of the fire.

Horry County Coroner Tamara Willard has identified the victim as 63-year-old Robert Helmick. Helmick lived at the residence, and the fire has been ruled as the cause of death.

As of right now, there were no other individuals in the home at the time of the fire.

    The Florence County School District 3 school board could upgrade security at seven schools. At Thursday night’s school board meeting, Hal Fuller with FW Architects made a presentation to the board outlining possible security upgrades.
