Consider This: Amber Alerts

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - We have had several Amber Alerts recently and fortunately the children were found alive and well. Many people in our area responded to the alerts and we are thankful that you provided important information.

Consider This: AMBER stands for America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response. The acronym was created as a legacy to 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was kidnapped while riding her bicycle in Arlington, Texas, and then brutally murdered.

Because of the transient nature of our region many criminals choose this area as a place to try to escape and hide. Because of that, we are likely to see more alerts.

When an Amber Alert is issued it is important that you pay attention to the specifics of the notice. When you see a car or person that fits the description of the alert, it is very important that you contact law enforcement immediately and provide as much information as possible. Having the license plate number, direction of travel and color and style of clothes are all helpful in the search. Finding the victim quickly can mean life or death. Be aware, be alert and be engaged.
