Daycare expands into former Essential Childcare building

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A new daycare facility has opened its doors in the building Essential Childcare formerly called home.

Earlier in the summer, Essential Childcare unexpectedly closed up shop the morning after the Fourth of July holiday, leaving parents and employees scratching their heads and looking for the lost paper trail.

WMBF News did some digging to find the Better Business Bureau had received several complaints about the business, and the facility had not been accredited.

Employees also spoke out about Essential Childcare saying they had not received any notice before the doors closed, and were having trouble finding jobs with such short notice.

But now there's good news on the horizon.

Elissa Woodle, owner of Creative Development Child Development Center has moved into the location on Highway 17 Bypass just south of the backgate and has been open since Monday.

Woodle tells WMBF News she previously ran a childcare center on Highway 17 Bypass and Farrow Parkway where the Myrtle Beach Funeral Home is currently located. Creative Development Child Development Center has one location on Holmestown Road which has a capacity of 222 kids.

Woodle has been in the childcare business for 25 years, and believes there are not enough "good quality" centers in the Myrtle Beach area. She insists her facilities have structure, good curriculum and she employees a staff that loves children and their job.

Woodle boosts that 80% of kids that attend her childcare are reading before going to school.

Before opening on Monday, Woodle made changes to the building to meet the needs of the business. Fifty children are already enrolled in the new location, which has a capacity of 180.
