FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – An investigation headed by the FBI charged a Bennettsville woman with embezzlement, and she has now pleaded guilty to those charges.
That woman, 39-year-old Betty Lee Johnson, is also known as Betty Goins Robinson or Betty Lee Goins.
US States Attorney Bill Nettles reports that Betty has been charged with one count of embezzlement after a surprise audit for the bank she worked for found nearly a quarter of a million dollars to be missing.
Johnson pleaded guilty to embezzlement in a federal court in Florence and will be sentenced at a later date.
The maximum penalty Johnson can
receive is a fine of $1,000,000 and/or 30 years in prison.
