Second gunman sought in Laurinburg shooting

LAURINBURG, NC (WMBF) - Police in Laurinburg were investigating three shootings that occurred in the city through the night between Sept. 20 and Sept. 21. Two arrests have been made, and another shooter has been identified.

Lt. Marc Godwin, spokesman for the Laurinburg Police Department, reports that the first shooting occurred around 10 p.m. Thursday at the Brothers in the Hood on Aberdeen Road.

Two disguised black males were reportedly waiting for the victim, a 37-year-old man, at the building's exit and shot him multiple times. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

On Friday, Sept. 21, a juvenile was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of a handgun by a minor, carrying a concealed gun, and discharging a firearm in the city limits. He has been placed in a juvenile facility awaiting trial.

Laurinburg Police have identified the second shooter as 22-year-old Exzavier Isaac of Laurinburg and have obtained warrants for his arrest for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery, and discharging a firearm in the city limits.

Isaac should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with any information as to the whereabouts of this individual can contact the Laurinburg Police Department at 910-276-3211 or Crimestoppers at 910-291-3333. 

Around 1:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to Hickory Street where shots were reportedly fired into a dwelling and an eight-year-old girl had been struck in the arm by one of the many bullets that pierced the home.

The child was transported to Scotland Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released.

On Thursday, Sept. 27, officers stopped a vehicle with a passenger armed with a handgun and charged him with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, poss. of drug paraphernalia, poss. of a firearm by a convicted felon, resist, delay, and obstruct, and littering.

Later that day, the suspect, 23-year-old Phillip John Graham of Laurel Hill, NC, was also charged with possession of firearm by a convicted felon, discharging a weapon into occupied property inflicting serious injury and discharging a weapon in city limits for shooting into the home on Hickory Street.

Graham was given a secured bond of $55,000 in addition to his first bond for a total of $65,500.

The third shooting occurred in the area of Lincoln Street. Officers arrived just after 2 a.m. to find the 22-year-old Jonathan Murphy lying motionless in the street.

Shot multiple times, Murphy showed no signs of life, Lt. Godwin echoes. There were no witnesses to be found.

So far, no suspects have been named in this case.

Laurinburg Police with the assistance of the North Carolina Bureau of Investigations were initially working to determine if these incidents were related, but are no longer pursing that possibility.
