MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Thanksgiving holiday may seem like it's a long time from now, but travel experts say you should already be thinking about it. If you're planning on flying to see family for the holiday, the experts say it's not too early to book your ticket.
"No, no it's not," Said Tracie Lawrence who works at AAA in Myrtle Beach. "It's quite the opposite with Thanksgiving so don't wait at all."
According to Lawrence, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is regarded as one of, if not, the busiest travel days of the year.
"Thanksgiving really kicks off the busiest holiday out of the whole season," said Lawrence. "More people travel the Wednesday before Thanksgiving than over the whole Christmas weekend combined."
Some people planning to fly thought ahead months in advance to book a flight for Thanksgiving.
"I bought my tickets in May of this year," Said Doug Allen who came to Myrtle Beach to play golf with friends.
Allen said the next time he'll be flying for a holiday is Christmas, and booking those tickets is next on his agenda.
"I haven't booked them yet, but I'm going to."
If you didn't book ahead of time like Allen, there are some tips for way you can save money for Thanksgiving flights.
"If you have flexibility leaving sometimes on Thanksgiving can be a benefit," Said Lawrence. "Otherwise I would try to get a little bit further away from those dates and leave on the Monday or Tuesday before Thanksgiving and return the Monday or Tuesday after Thanksgiving."
