FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Two Lake City residents are behind bars after police say they broke into a Florence County home and stole electronics.

Captain Michael Nunn, spokesman for the Florence County Sheriff's Office, says they first became aware of the burglary after the two suspects were stopped by an officer with DNR. That's when it became apparent the duo had broken into a home on Lake City Highway and stolen an electronic device.

The two suspects, 66-year-old Maria Lueraine Lopez and 45-year-old Vernon Grooms, both of Hopkins, were taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with burglary. Each are also facing charges from other agencies.

Bond for Lopez was set at $10,000, while Grooms is still awaiting a hearing. Both are incarcerated at the Florence County Detention Center.
