MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The riots and killings in the Middle East over a movie recently released on the Internet have again brought to light the significant differences between our beliefs and those of countries where freedom of expression is selectively allowed.
Consider This: The filmmaker's views don't represent the opinion of most Americans, just like the rioters in the Middle East don't represent the views of all Muslims. How can one obscure film cause such hatred and chaos thousands of miles across the world? These riots appear to be more of a planned act of terrorism using the film as a convenient excuse to incite their followers and justify the killings. It is tragic and unacceptable. America needs to respond with a unified directive that those actions will not be tolerated.
Fortunately, what really stands out in this turmoil is the wisdom of our founding fathers in creating a country that respects religious freedom and freedom of speech. When I see the actions of an ignorant, intolerant people it makes me appreciate those rights that much more.
