I-73 continues to be promoted as the solution for hurricane evacuation, traffic reduction, tourism and jobs. Proponents claim its the silver bullet, but there is no funding for the $2.4 billion interstate, there are no permits to build the interstate.
The SC Department of Transportation is in financial straits, the state infrastructure bank has used up their bonding capacity and Washington has said no to earmarks. Let's stop spending money, time and talk on a road that will not be built and focus on the roads we have.
Upgrade 38/501 at one tenth the cost of a new interstate. Four lane SC 9 to I-95. Fixing the roads we have costs less than building a new interstate. There are no silver bullets. Its time to fix it first.
