FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A school principal is recovering in a local hospital after attempting to intercede in a fight between two of his students.

Lionel Brown, assistant superintendent for Florence School District One, tells WMBF News that the fight broke out between two students at the alternative school Wednesday morning.

The Assistant Principal was injured as he stumbled backwards and hit his head while he was trying to break up the altercation and was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

School district spokeswoman Pam Little-McDaniel comments that one of the students involved in the fight was turned over to law enforcement and that the assistant principal is expected to be back at work Wednesday afternoon.

Florence Police spokesman Carlos Raines says the 19-year-old student, Zyquan Jackson, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. The other student, a 16-year-old, was charged as a juvenile with disorderly conduct and released to his parents.
