Mother arrested after newborn tests positive for drugs

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - On Monday, 27-year-old Debra McCaw was charged with unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person.

The Florence County Sheriff's Office says McCaw gave birth to a baby in June and the child tested positive for drugs. However, they would not release information on what type of drugs were present in the baby's system.

McCaw's bond has been set at $7,000, but officials at the Florence County Detention Center say McCaw hasn't posted bond yet and remains in their custody.

Aside from this most recent charge, McCraw is no stranger to the Florence County Detention Center having been in and out of the facility for the past two years with charges of shoplifting under $2,000 and possession of drugs.
