MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) Walmart is testing a new checkout system using mobile devices.
The new system called "Scan and Go" allows shoppers to use their smart phones to scan items as they shop, then scan the items at self service kiosks.
Walmart says the new app is an attempt to help reduce long checkout lines and reduce labor costs.
The app will not allow shoppers to pay with their mobile devices, but is designed to make scanning quicker and easier.
Currently, the app is being tested by employees at the Walmart Supercenter near its headquarters in Bentonville Arkansas, but it's not yet available to customers.
