Russian man fends off mugger in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) At 6 a.m. on Saturday, a Russian man was mugged on 9th Avenue North and Oak Street on his way to home and fended off the mugger with a chair and a rock, according to a Myrtle Beach Police report.

The victim was returning from a club heading to his sister's house when a black male suspect approached him on the street asking if he wanted a tour of Myrtle Beach.

When the Russian man refused, the suspect asked him for $10. In an attempt to avoid any problems, the victim offered the offender $20 dollars, and then walked away.

The offender followed him down the road, jumped him from behind and put the victim in a choke hold. In defense, the Russian man struck an elbow into the offender's stomach and held him at bay with a nearby porch chair and a rock until the offender fled the scene.

Anyone with information regarding this incident are encouraged to call the Myrtle Beach Police department at 843-918-1000.
