HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) Horry County police are prosecuting DUI cases much more efficiently these days, and it's just in time as authorities crack down on drunk driving this Labor Day weekend.
This time last year the county had about 500 DUI cases that were older than a year on its backlog. Today, it has only 12.
Officials say they summoned all cases, cracked down on attorney's trying to get a continuance and scheduled more trials.
The county solicitor says this means drunk drivers will be held more accountable.
"We have more time to work the case and more time to say, now we are not going to plea this one out, we've got the resources available to hold your feet to the fire," says Greg Hembree Horry County solicitor.
The Sober or Slammer campaign is in full affect by law enforcement with police out in droves ready to catch anyone driving under the influence or breaking traffic laws.
