LUMBERTON, NC (WMBF) – A Lumberton man is spending time behind bars after police say he put a gun up to his live-in girlfriend's neck and pulled the trigger.

Major Howard Branch, spokesman for the Robeson County Sheriff's Office tells WMBF News that 62-year-old Robert Eugene McIntyre of Lumberton was returning to a friend's house Wednesday night after leaving to purchase beer and told his girlfriend she had no business to be there.

That's when he reportedly pulled out a gun, shot her in the neck, and drove away, Major Branch explains. Her condition is unknown.

McIntyre was arrested on Thursday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
