CHERRY GROVE, SC (WMBF) - The proximity of lifeguards from the City of North Myrtle Beach aided in their quick response when a boat capsized Thursday morning in Hogs Inlet.
City spokesman Pat Dowling tells WMBF News that the flat-bottomed boat, approximately 14 feet in length, capsized in the inlet Thursday morning and one man occupying the boat was holding on to stay afloat when spotted by lifeguards.
Another boat in the area of the inlet picked him up and he was not injured.
The City of North Myrtle Beach jet skis that were assisting in the rescue brought the lifeguards back to shore, and they are currently working to tow in the capsized boat.
NMB lifeguards are equipped with an ATV vehicle and other life-saving equipment near the inlet to assist them in rescues in this area even though it is outside of city limits, Dowling adds.
