Man avoids near carjacking at bank ATM

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Police in Myrtle Beach are searching for a male suspect after one man claims he was nearly carjacked at his bank's ATM.

A man pulled up to the ATM at the Conway National Bank on 21st Avenue North in Myrtle Beach around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday to make a transaction when he was approached by a man wearing a mask, according to the incident report from Myrtle Beach Police.

The suspect walked up to the driver's side window, wielding a black handgun and yelling, "Get out of the [expletive] car," the report states.

The victim claims he did not get out of the car despite the suspect's persistent yelling, and instead realizing his car was still in gear, drove quickly out of the parking lot to a nearby restaurant where he contacted police.

The victim told police he did see the suspect leaving but was unsure in which direction he fled. The suspect is described as a stocky male standing between 5 feet 10 and 6 feet tall and weighing between 190 and 205 pounds. He may have been wearing a jacket and jeans at the time.

Anyone with information concerning this or other crimes is asked to contact Myrtle Beach Police.
