Myrtle Beach will have presence at DNC

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (AP) - The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce will have a hospitality room for the media in Charlotte at next month's Democratic National Convention to attract publicity for the Grand Strand.

According to the AP report, the chamber says the venue is similar to events during the presidential debates in Myrtle Beach and events at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The chamber will not hold a similar event at the Republican National Convention next week in Tampa.

Tourism leaders in the northern part of the state have formed South Carolina 2012 to focus tourism efforts on those attending the Democratic convention that begins next month in Charlotte.

The idea is to lure some of those attendees to attractions in South Carolina and generate publicity for the state.
