MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Authorities in Horry County have recovered a body discovered in a pond near Waccamaw Pines Drive Tuesday and say they do not suspect any foul play in the man's death.

Horry County Police spokesman Sgt. Robert Kegler reports that the body of a white male was found in a pond off Hospitality Lane near Waccamaw Pines Drive shortly after 12 p.m.

Sgt. Kent Donald with the HCPD told our WMBF News crew on the scene that the man was discovered by a passerby walking a dog who then notified police. The body was removed two hours after police arrived on scene by a dive team.

Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard has identified the man as 55-year-old Kenneth Earl Strickland Sr. of Myrtle Beach. Preliminary results from the autopsy performed Tuesday afternoon indicate that Mr. Strickland died as a result of drowning but the case remains under investigation.

A few articles of clothing were located nearby but has it has not been determined who they belonged to. Kegler adds that the Violent Crimes Unit responded to assist in the investigation, but that response is protocol. Right now, no foul play is suspected.

The amount of time the man was in the pond before he was found is unknown right now. Stick with WMBFNews.com to bring you the late-breaking details as soon as they become available.
