CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – A Conway woman could spend up to five years in prison after being charged with preparing a false tax return.

Samantha Cheek, spokeswoman for the SC Department of Revenue, reports that 28-year-old Jessica West of Conway was taken into custody Tuesday morning based on accusations that she provided a false W2 form to a tax preparer in early 2012.

That form, Cheek explains, indicates Jessica West made an income of $16,998 and $764 in state taxes was withheld. Ms. West did not work for the employer listed on the form and was not entitled to those withholdings.

West has been charged with willfully assisting in the preparation of a false tax return. If convicted, she could be penalized with $500 in fines or spend up to five years behind bars.

West is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
