MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - We've all said something we later regret or said something that has been taken out of context. But sometimes we say exactly what we mean, then realize we should have kept that opinion to ourselves.
Consider This: Missouri Congressman and Senate candidate Todd Akin made some controversial comments about women who are raped. Now Akin is saying he misspoke and is under fire from all sides; fellow Republicans are saying he should drop out of the race. I'm not sure about that, but I do think he said exactly what he believed. He may now regret that he shared those thoughts, but that's not misspeaking.
What's most unfortunate is that it is already difficult for women who are raped to come forward whether it is due to fear or embarrassment. People who think like Congressman Akin make that situation worse.
