SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) A rash of break-ins near beach accesses sparked a three-week investigation that has landed one Myrtle Beach man behind bars.
Surfside Beach Chief of Police Mike Frederick reports that undercover officers were posted at pawn shops and flea markets in an attempt to locate a suspect with stolen merchandise.
After finding witnesses and evidence, officers executed a search warrant on a home on Holmestown Road near Highway 707, Chief Frederick adds, locating stolen items including cameras, smartphones and electronic equipment.
Surfside PD was able to link those stolen items to a string of recent break-ins and are working with other agencies to determine a connection with more cases.
Frederick says 33-year-old Clifford Ray Dotson of Myrtle Beach was arrested on Friday, August 10 when a Horry County Police officer found him asleep in a car.
Dotson has been charged with nine counts of breaking and entering motor vehicle, three counts of grand larceny and nine counts financial transaction card fraud.
A bond hearing was held in the Surfside Beach Municipal Court Wednesday and Dotson was remanded to J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $231,000 bond.
