LAURINBURG, NC (WMBF) – A North Carolina man is facing attempted rape charges after police say he tried to force entry into a woman's home with a knife.
Lt. Mark Godwin, spokesman for the Laurinburg Police Department, tells WMBF News that 26-year-old Ranzino Antwan Kells of Raeford, NC was taken into custody on Wednesday in connection to an attempted rape and assault on July 31.
According to the report, Kells knocked on the door of an apartment on Carver Street asking to use the restroom when the victim allowed him into her home.
That's when Kells purportedly attacked the victim with a knife, but the victim fought back, prompting Kells to flee the home.
The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment and released later the same day, Lt. Godwin adds.
Ranzino Kells remains at the Scotland County Detention Center where he is charged with attempted rape and assault with a deadly weapon. His bond is set at $25,000.
