HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A middle-aged Myrtle Beach man is facing charges after police say he sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl.

The preteen victim had reportedly asked the suspect, 55-year-old James Clifford Penny of Myrtle Beach, for some soothing lotion to help her sunburn when the incident occurred over two years ago, according to the incident report from Horry County Police.

The incident was reported on July 20, 2012 by the girl's friend, claiming Penny had told the girl the burn lotion was in his bathroom, and followed her into the room offering to help her.

The friend explains that Penny then drew the girl into a bedroom and forced her to have sex with him.

Booking records at J. Reuben Long Detention show Penny was taken into custody on Monday and charged with criminal sexual conduct. He was released less than 12 hours later on a $10,000 bond.
