MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A Myrtle Beach man is behind bars after police say he hit a man with his car while driving under the influence.
The incident report WMBF News attained from Myrtle Beach Police states that 34-year-old Andrey Valerevich Gumenyuk of Myrtle Beach was leaving a parking lot on 21st Avenue North near Withers Drive around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday morning when he reportedly struck a pedestrian on the sidewalk.
Gumenyuk then stopped his car, got out and punched the pedestrian's female friend in the face.
The report states the man that had been struck with the car was able to detain the driver on the ground with the assistance of security personnel from a nearby hotel until police arrived.
The pedestrian was treated for a small cut on his head by EMS on the scene.
Several tests were administered by officers to determine if Gumenyuk was driving under the influence. The report states that he lacked understanding while performing those tests, had difficulty standing and was eventually taken into custody for DUI.
A search of Public Index records showed Gumenyuk has no previous DUI arrests in Horry County.
The arrest report notes that Gumenyuk works as a manager for a business on 21st Avenue North, but it's unclear if he was leaving work at the time that the accident occurred.
