Congress approves funds to improve Lumberton streets

LUMBERTON, NC (WMBF) – A North Carolina congressman has approved some significant funds to make improvements to two streets in downtown Lumberton.

Congressman Mike McIntyre announced the federal funds, to the amount of $556,000, have been designated for improvements to Carthage and Water Street.

"This is good news for downtown Lumberton! Helping improve access from I-95 to businesses is a win-win for customers and proprietors. It is great to see resources being dedicated to doing all we can to help Lumberton grow and prosper!" the congressman boosts.

The thousands of dollars for improvements from the US Department of Transportation will be used to study, design and construct a wider roadway and add bicycle and pedestrian lanes.

These enhancements will not only upgrade the access from I-95, but help a badly congested four road intersection, and storm water collection along that route.
