SOCASTEE, SC (WMBF) - The area of 707 in Socastee has seen an increase in car break-ins. There have been almost 20 cases just in the last week, according to Horry County Police.
Sergeant Tim Troxell with Horry County Police says the area is targeted because of how many cars are in one area.
They're mainly targeting this area because of the dense population. There's several large neighborhoods all within 707, or easily accessible using 707. The dense population means the opportunity to hit more cars in a short period of time," explains Sergeant Troxell.
People who live in Cimmeron Plantation are affected by these crimes and are ready to protect their property. They say thieves should be aware that the neighborhood is watching for them.
Horry County Police say the best way to end the crime is to help the police department in catching those responsible.
"if you see something happening, get as much information as you can as far as a description...what they're wearing, what they're traveling in, and relate that to us. Let that be our job, its what we get paid for, and I wouldn't want to see anyone put themselves in harms way," Troxell says.
Authorities stress that your safety is more valuable than your belongings. Call Horry County Police if you have any information regarding these break ins.
