MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Stores all along the Grand Strand are advertising Green Lasers for Sale. In our report last week businesses said they sell the devices because they are so popular. Unfortunately, they are also very dangerous.
Consider This: A helicopter pilot is lucky that his eyesight wasn't permanently damaged when someone shined a green laser into his cockpit during a rescue mission for two men whose boat had capsized. And those two men are lucky to be alive since the pilot had to delay the search due to that green laser.
It's sort of like the opinion that guns don't kill people, people kill people. Well the same applies to green lasers. It's the idiots who operate them who cause the problems. How could someone think that shining a laser into a helicopter or airplane is entertaining and fun?
Before a major accident happens local leaders need to beef up the existing laws. Slap a serious fine on the people who mishandle green lasers instead of giving them a slap on the hand.
