SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Five people are facing charges after the Surfside Beach PD concluded its anti-prostitution operation.
The four-hour undercover sting that ended Friday morning was a result of a week-long online investigation of message boards and classified advertising sites, details Police Chief Mike Frederick.
Undercover officers posed as "johns," responding to the adult escort ads.
The sting resulted in the following arrests:
Kristine Marie Reynolds, 22, Myrtle Beach
James Kenneth Goodenow, 41, Myrtle Beach
Charge: Carrying Concealed Weapon
Christiana Olivia Long, 19, Conway
Mary Lee Denham, 53, Myrtle Beach
Charge: Prostitution, Possession Schedule II Drugs (2 counts, Methadone and Oxycodone)
Kim Renee Timmerman, 52, Myrtle Beach
Frederick explains that Reynolds, Long and Denham were arrested in a hotel room. Goodnow escorted Reynolds to that location and was arrested in the parking lot. Timmerman was found waiting in the parking lot when she was arrested.
"Most agencies have to do this," Frederick said, "to defend the quality of life in the communities we're sworn to protect. It's not just the prostitution, but the attendant crime we know tags along - drugs, assaults, and robberies."
Frederick adds that prostitution is a pervasive problem, and he views operations like these as "community maintenance."
"We have a very high quality of life here in Surfside Beach and we'd like to keep it that way," Frederick said, "Maybe now some of the girls will be a little less likely to trip to a Surfside Beach address for a little while."
