HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Emergency responders in Horry County are making sure they know what to do if a disaster were to strike our coast.
A mock catastrophic event, like a hurricane or earthquake, is sharpening their skills. Among the exercises, employees will learn how to distribute bulk emergency relief to the community.
The training is called POD, or Point of Distribution.
Emergency management will also meet with residents to make sure homeowners are aware of everything they need to do in case of an emergency.
Later this week community members will have another chance to learn about updated hurricane evacuation zones in Myrtle Beach.
The "Know Your Zone" hurricane information session is at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Canal Street Recreation Center.
