SC man killed in Hwy 22 crash

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The Horry County Coroner's Office has identified the man killed in a crash with a dump truck on Highway 22 Wednesday.

The website for the South Carolina Highway Patrol says the accident, listed as a fatality, occurred around 1:41 p.m. on SC 22 eastbound at mile marker two approaching the exit for Highway 501.

Lance Corporal Sonny Collins with the SCHP says the MAIT team is continuing the investigate the circumstances surrounding this collision that killed one individual.

Collins comments that a dump truck was driving west on Highway 22 in the right hand lane, and driving below the posted speed limit due to mechanical issues. A pickup truck pulling a trailer in the right lane crashed into the back of that dump truck, killing the driver and only occupant of the truck.

Collins continues to say that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, and the driver of the dump truck was unharmed.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick identified the truck driver as 60-year-old David Alan Tomlin of Ravenel. Hendrick adds that Tomlin died from internal injuries he suffered during the crash.
