MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - In less than two weeks the opening ceremonies for the 2012 Summer Olympics will kick off the London games right here on WMBF. The U.S. team uniforms look great, but like so many of our products, those uniforms were "Made in China".
Consider This: Ralph Lauren, designer and sponsor of the uniforms, is catching the heat and says that the uniforms for the next games will be made in the U.S.A. However, business leaders say it is a good idea to outsource the work. Their opinion is that garment manufacturing is a low-cost commodity business and the real value of the apparel business is in the design, technology, sales, marketing, and distribution areas which are based in the USA. However, even though it might make business sense to outsource the work, it doesn't seem very patriotic.
Regardless of where your opinion falls on the uniform debate I bet we can agree on one thing. We'll all be cheering for the talented athletes when they compete in the games. Go USA!
