MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The national employment numbers are stagnant, but if plans come together for several local projects, expect great news on job growth for our region.
Consider This: Just a few years ago the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation was dysfunctional and ineffective. Combine that with County Council leadership that didn't understand the world of economic development and you begin to see why job growth in our area didn't happen. However, things are changing.
I serve on the board of directors for the economic development group which gives me a front row seat to the efforts currently underway. There are good things on the horizon. Brad Lofton and the executive team have accomplished much the past year and with a supportive County Council we are poised to see record job growth over the coming years.
Recruiting business is difficult in today's environment. We have to provide creative options, complete infrastructure and competitive incentives. We're now in that game and the investment and hard work is paying off. You'll soon hear about businesses that plan to set up shop here, create jobs and Catch the Rising Tide.
