Moped driver killed in crash on Highmarket Street

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The driver of a moped involved in a collision on Tuesday has succumbed to his injuries, accorded to the Georgetown County coroner.

Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson says 59-year-old James E. Moultrie died at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center on Thursday from the multiple traumatic injuries received in an accident on Tuesday.

Lance Corporal Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol says the collision occurred on Highmarket Street in front of Jean Wards Store around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3.

Collins says that Moultrie pulled onto the highway from a private driveway and failed to yield to the Jeep SUV traveling south on Highmarket Street.

This accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
